Backwoods Falconry Services started as a private enterprise with
the express purpose of educating the public and dispelling the
myths surrounding falconry.
Many times people are mystified by technical jargon and, hence,
go away knowing less and becoming disillusioned on the subject.
Rather than trying to practice a dark art that should remain a
secret for eternity, we like to think that a person who is
taught how to care for and handle a falcon becomes more aware of
the world and appreciates more around them.
Aside from the instant gratification they receive from the
experience of handling a bird, the long term effects on an
individual can be far more profound.
The displays and demonstrations we provide help illuminate these
mysteries. Plenty of times we hear of others that wish to simply
show their wares and not care on whether the public wants to
learn on whether it's possible for them to, one day, become a
falconer.
These people should have their interest nurtured, not
suppressed, but also made aware that keeping a bird of prey is
an ongoing process and nothing like keeping a caged bird.
We hope that any aspiring falconer is given the opportunity to
express their interest and, through correct tutoring, become a
competent and caring falconer.
Remember, there's far more to owning and caring for your bird
than just food and shelter. You must become your bird's best
friend, whom it will implicitly trust.
Trust that has to be earned and the bird respected.
At present, we are expanding our
enterprise and are in the process of looking for larger premises
in which to establish a dedicated falconry centre.
We welcome enquiries from interested parties with suitable
